If there is one thing women complain of as they get older, it’s losing elasticity in the lower third of their face. We joke about our “baby jowls,” or our “smile” lines, but none of us likes it.
This is one time misery definitely doesn’t love company! With Waynesboro cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Keith Knoell, you now have real options for keeping the face you’ve always known. And you don’t have to resort to plastic surgery, either.
A volumizing filler, Restylane doesn’t change the way you look, it simply enhances it.
It’s perfect for adding volume to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
- Parentheses—Lines that form from your nose to the corner of your mouth
- Baby jowls, or sagging along the jaw line
- Lips to enhance their fullness for women over age of 21
- Restoring volume to cheeks
- On the backs of hands to make veins look less prominent
- Sagging under eyes
What Is Restylane?
Restylane is an injectable filler of sterile gel, which contains non-animal, cross-linked, hyaluronic acid made in a laboratory. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to absorb 1000 times its weight in water!
That’s what makes Restylane such a good choice for laugh lines, parentheses (around the mouth), hollow cheeks, and sagging under the eyes.
A good complement to Restylane is Botox.
How Long Does It Last?
It depends on the treatment area, your skin, and the injection technique. Generally speaking, Restylane will last 4-6 months. Every person is different, which means the longevity of the product is variable.
If it’s your first time to get a cosmetic dermal filler, you may want to avoid social activities for the first two days.
How Long Does It Take to Work?
Results are immediate, but it can take several days for the injection to settle in. You’ll look even better after a day or two!
We use a topical skin anesthetic, which sits on the skin for 30-45 minutes prior to your actual appointment. You’ll not only feel comfortable but the cream decreases the chance of bruising by temporarily constricting blood flow.
How Will I Look After My Treatment?
Most of our patients put their makeup on and go right back to their normal activities.
A rapid result with rarely any down time is the way to go with Restylane cosmetic filler. But it also helps if the treatments are a cinch, too.
Remember, to avoid bruising, avoid aspirin, Execedrin, ibuprofen, Aleve and Advil for one week before your dermal appointment and two days after. Tylenol is fine.
Do I Need to Repeat the Treatment with Restylane?
Yes, all dermal fillers require maintenance, approximately every 4-6 months.
Are There Any Side Effects?
You may have some swelling for 24-72 hours after the injection. Around the injection site, you may experience swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness. These typically dissipate in 2-10 days.
Over all, side effects are mild, especially when you compare it to plastic surgery!
